Tennessee Lottery Overdue Numbers: Finding Value in Draw History

What Are Overdue Numbers?

An overdue number is one that has not appeared in more drawings than its statistical average would predict. Every number in a lottery pool has an expected frequency based on the pool size and how many numbers are drawn. When a number's gap — the count of consecutive draws since it last appeared — exceeds two to three times the average, it is commonly called "cold" or "overdue."

Cash 3 and Cash 4 (Up to 3 Draws Per Day)

Tennessee's digit games are well-suited to overdue analysis because of their high draw frequency. Cash 3 and Cash 4 both draw three times Monday through Saturday plus once on Sundays — 19 draws per week. In Cash 3, each digit (0-9) has a 1-in-10 chance of appearing in each position per draw. With 19 draws weekly, a digit absent for 28 or more draws (about 10 days) is entering overdue territory. Cash 4 follows the same pattern with four positions instead of three. The rapid draw frequency means overdue patterns develop and resolve faster than in states with fewer weekly draws.

Daily Tennessee Jackpot (5/38 — TN Exclusive)

Daily Tennessee Jackpot's compact 5/38 pool with daily drawings makes it responsive to frequency analysis. Each number has a 5/38 = 13.2% chance of appearing per draw. The average gap is about 7.6 draws (just over one week). A number absent for 20 or more draws (about three weeks) is notably overdue. The lack of a bonus ball simplifies the analysis — there is only one pool to track. With daily draws, the data builds quickly, making this game one of the better candidates for gap analysis among TN's lotto-style games.

Tennessee Cash (5/35 + Cash Ball 1/5)

Tennessee Cash draws Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each main number has a 5/35 = 14.3% chance of appearing per draw, with an average gap of about 7 draws. A main number absent for 18 or more draws (about six weeks) is significantly overdue. The Cash Ball pool is tiny — just 5 numbers — so each Cash Ball has a 20% chance per draw. A Cash Ball absent for 12+ draws is very cold. Track the main numbers and Cash Ball separately for the best results. The small pools in both dimensions make Tennessee Cash one of the most analytically accessible lotto games.

Lotto America, Powerball, and Mega Millions

For Lotto America (5/52 + Star Ball 1/10), each main number has a 5/52 = 9.6% chance per draw. The average gap is about 10.4 draws. With three weekly drawings, a number absent for 28+ draws (about two months) is significantly overdue. Powerball draws 5 from 69, giving each number roughly a 1-in-14 chance per draw — a number absent for 40+ draws is notably overdue. Mega Millions follows a similar pattern with 5 from 70. These multi-state games have larger pools and fewer weekly draws, so overdue thresholds are correspondingly higher.

The Gambler's Fallacy

Overdue analysis is a historical pattern tool, not a prediction system. Each lottery draw is independent — the machine does not track which numbers are "due." A number absent for 50 draws has the same probability of appearing in the next draw as one that appeared yesterday. Use overdue data to understand distribution patterns, but remember that past gaps do not influence future outcomes.
