What Are Overdue Numbers?
An overdue number is one that has not appeared in more drawings than its statistical average would predict. Every number in a lottery pool has an expected frequency based on the pool size and how many numbers are drawn. When a number's gap — the count of consecutive draws since it last appeared — exceeds two to three times the average, it is commonly called "cold" or "overdue."
Gimme 5 (5/39)
In Gimme 5, each main number has a 5/39 = 12.8% chance of appearing per draw. The average gap is about 7.8 draws. With Monday-through-Friday drawings, a number absent for 20 or more draws (roughly a month) is entering overdue territory. As a Tri-State game with a fixed $100,000 top prize, Gimme 5 patterns are especially worth tracking.
Megabucks Plus (5/41 + Megaball 1/6)
In Megabucks Plus, each main number has a 5/41 = 12.2% chance of appearing per draw. The average gap is about 8.2 draws. With three draws per week, a main-pool number absent for 20 or more draws is entering overdue territory. The Megaball (1-6) has a 1-in-6 chance per draw, so gaps of 15+ draws are worth noting.
Lotto America (5/52 + Star Ball 1/10)

For Pick 3 and Pick 4, each digit (0-9) has a 1-in-10 chance per position per draw. With Midday and Evening draws every day, a digit absent from a specific position for 25+ draws is considered cold.
