Virginia's Draw Game Lineup

The Virginia Lottery offers eight draw games covering daily digit picks, an in-state ball-draw game, a unique after-tax jackpot game, and the two national multi-state juggernauts. Virginia stands out for its Fireball add-on on digit games, the EZ Match instant-win feature on Cash 5, and Bank a Million — the only lottery game in the country that advertises its top prize as a guaranteed after-tax amount. Virginia taxes lottery winnings at 5.75%, though withholding on prizes over $5,000 is 4%.

Pick 3

Virginia Pick 3 is a 3-digit game drawn twice daily — Day at 1:59 PM ET and Night at 11:00 PM ET. Choose 3 digits from 0-9 (digits can repeat) and select your play type:

The Fireball add-on costs an extra $1 and gives you a sixth drawn digit that can replace any one of the three main digits, effectively creating additional ways to win. With two draws per day and 730+ draws per year, Pick 3 is ideal for frequency and pattern analysis.

Pick 4

Pick 4 mirrors Pick 3 but with 4 digits. It is also drawn twice daily at 1:59 PM and 11:00 PM ET. Straight bets pay $5,000 on a $1 wager with odds of 1 in 10,000. Box and straight/box play types are available. The Fireball add-on works identically to Pick 3 — the extra Fireball digit can substitute for any one of the four main digits.

Pick 5

Virginia Pick 5 draws 5 digits from 0-9 (with replacement) twice daily at the same 1:59 PM and 11:00 PM schedule. Straight bets pay $50,000 with odds of 1 in 100,000. Like Pick 3 and Pick 4, the Fireball add-on is available for an extra $1, providing more ways to win on each draw. Pick 5's twice-daily schedule makes it one of the highest-volume games in the Virginia Lottery.

Cash 5 with EZ Match

Cash 5 is Virginia's in-state ball-draw game. Pick 5 numbers from 1-45, drawn daily at 11:00 PM ET. The top prize for matching all 5 is a rolling jackpot that starts at $100,000 and grows until won. Overall odds of winning any prize: approximately 1 in 8.

The EZ Match add-on costs an extra $1 and prints five instant-win numbers on your ticket. If any EZ Match number matches one of your Cash 5 selections, you win the prize shown instantly — no need to wait for the drawing. EZ Match prizes range from $2 to $500.

Bank a Million

Bank a Million is unique to Virginia — it is the only lottery game in the United States that advertises its top prize as an after-tax amount. The headline prize is "$1 million after taxes," which means the pre-tax value is approximately $1.4 million. The Virginia Lottery covers the state and federal tax on the top prize.

Pick 6 numbers from 1-40, plus a Bonus Ball is drawn from the same 1-40 pool. Drawings are Wednesday and Saturday. Jackpot odds: 1 in 3,838,380. To win the full million-dollar after-tax prize, you must match all 6 numbers; matching 5 of 6 plus the Bonus Ball wins $2,000.

Millionaire for Life

Millionaire for Life replaced Cash4Life on February 22, 2026. Pick 5 numbers from 1-58 plus 1 Millionaire Ball from 1-5. Drawings are daily. The top prize is $1,000,000 per year for life (minimum 20 years guaranteed), and the second prize is $25,000 per year for life. Jackpot odds: 1 in 21,846,048.

Powerball & Mega Millions

Virginia participates in both national multi-state games. Powerball drawings are Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday; Mega Millions are Tuesday and Friday. Virginia's 5.75% state tax rate is moderate compared to other states — lower than California (13.3%) and New York (10.9%) but higher than tax-free states like Texas and Florida.

Which Virginia Lottery Game Should You Play?

For frequent action and the Fireball add-on, Pick 3 delivers twice-daily draws with extra winning combinations. For a daily ball-draw game with an instant-win feature, Cash 5 with EZ Match is the standout. For the best odds on a jackpot that is paid out completely tax-free, Bank a Million is a Virginia original. And for life-changing money, Powerball and Mega Millions remain the options.
